3rd Annual Spring into Fearless Writing: April 27 – May 1 2020

Monday, April 27, 3pm – Friday, May 1, Noon, 2020

A writing retreat for 8 women at St. Francis Springs, a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility situated on 140 acres of beautiful and peaceful wooded property that offers a natural setting, 34 miles north of the Piedmont Triad International Airport at Greensboro, NC. Engage with other women writers in a safe supportive circle to use Peggy’s Centered Writing Practice. Explore the brook-side trails, walk the labyrinth, and discover quiet nooks for reading, writing, and contemplation.

The St. Francis Springs Center is a nonprofit inter-faith retreat center. ClarityWorks is not affiliated with this or any other spiritual or religious organization.

Open to new and returning participants at any level of writing, this 5-day, 4-night retreat provides ample time to sink into your writing. Here is the answer to all those times you’ve said, “If I only had the time!”

We inhabit St. Clare and St. Francis cottages on the woods’ edge separate from the main lodge. Each participant has a private bedroom and bath, with a scenic view of the property. Each cottage has 4 such bedrooms, a kitchenette, and a lounge large enough for a group meeting.

Monday: Check-in at the lodge begins at 3 pm. At 4:30, we have “conviviality,” a time for socializing with food and drink provided by participants. Dinner is served at 6:00 in the lodge dining room. An introductory program convenes at 7:00 in St. Francis.

Tuesday – Thursday: Mornings, we meet in the lounge of St. Francis cottage and use Centered Writing Practice to inspire new material and to explore writing tools and craft. Afternoons, we practice silence in the cottages while writing in our rooms, lounges, or outdoors. This time can also be used to hike the trails or nap. At 4:30, we have “conviviality,” followed by dinner at 6:00. 7:00 – 9:00, we read our work and receive feedback, if we wish. We also have time for Q&A about writing craft.

Friday:  You are asked to check-out of your room by 10:00. There is no program Friday morning, but you may stay on the campus for lunch.

Registration Opens: January 25, 2020  This retreat fills rapidly. Limited to 8 participants.

Register by emailing Peggy. Include your name, physical address, phone, and email. Please put RETREAT INQUIRY as the Subject.
Fees: $1225
Deposit: $500 due upon acceptance of registration.
Final Payment: due by March 16, 2020.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: Full refund less $75 processing fee if you cancel before March 15, 2020. No refund after that date unless a replacement can be found. If ClarityWorks cancels, a full refund will be given.

If you have never attended a ClarityWorks class or retreat, Peggy will contact you to arrange an interview and ask for a writing sample to give her an idea of where you are with your writing. This is not a competition.

  1. I could really use this, Peggy. However, my husband has been diagnosed with dementia; and leaving him is somewhat problematic. Let me think on it. If it fills up before I can make a decision, so be it. Stay in touch.

  2. Hi Peggy…my internet seems to be sporatic…but /and I’m confused as to where to send my deposit for the retreat.
    please let me know..?
    hopefully, Karen

  3. Please add me to the inquiry list. I am very interested but need to check the dates. I never have time, take time, or make time to write (unless I’m under a writing deadline) but I often tell others and have been telling myself for years that I am meant to be a writer. Do I really mean it? I had a Sabbatical two years ago and did some writing but I took the easy way out and did lots and lots of reading. I am still reading. I am not writing. Help!
Please let me know what next step to take in regards to your retreat. I will look at the calendars. Thank you!

  4. Hi Peggy,

Yay, a Retreat with “YOU”, nothing could light my fire more. Count me in, if you have space available.

  5. HI, Peggy, so nice to speak with you this morning. I am so incredibly sorry that your retreat is filled but I am the one to call if there is a last minute dropout as I am due to be in Chapel Hill on Friday, May 3rd for the start of my son’s MBA graduation activities. I will keep that week clear and pray that there is a last minute opening. You can always call or text me at 240-353-7066. I’m E McCain’s friend.
